Training

Supercare Services Group views its responsibility to contribute to the national pool of skills seriously and in pursuance thereof an “In house” Training Academy/College was established by the group in 1999 – this is one of the very few Services SETA accredited "In house" training institutions in the Contract Cleaning industry.

The Training College has contributed to the development and empowerment of many South Africans from disadvantaged communities who have enrolled at the college.

The College's vision is to create a skilled workforce for Supercare Services Group in order to provide cost effective, quality and competent staff on the sites where staff are based.

The Mission of the Training College is

  • To develop a competent workforce by improving product knowledge thus ensuring productivity gains
  • To map career development opportunities
  • To provide management at all levels with the necessary skills to conduct their work effectively and efficiently
  • To work according to necessary legislation governing education, training and development in the services industry

Our key Learning Principles are:

  • Learning should be integrated within the business strategy and key HR processes, such as Transformation; Succession Planning & Performance Management
  • Learning is governed by a Learning Council, which is composed of EXCO members
  • Learning is delivered internally and externally in partnership with selected, outsourced vendors, who comply with internal and external quality assurance processes
  • Learning solutions need to leverage internal expertise
  • Learning needs to facilitate the organisation's core competencies
  • To establish a culture of continuous, life-long learning, at all levels within the organisation

Our college comprises of five learning centres throughout the country with mobile training interventions being entertained on our clients premises and outside the major metropolitan areas.

In pursuance of the challenges of providing training to the vast geographical spread of the workforce, a significant investment was made in electronic technology, which was introduced by way of Mobile Training Intervention (MTI's) units. This being a methodology of knowledge training through touch screen technology that utilises mobile networks to obtain instantaneous results of assessments on the knowledge component of training.

This innovative methodology contributed to Supercare Services Group achieving the best Training Institution in the Golden Services Award for two consecutive years in the Contract Cleaning Industry.

The college has an outcomes-based model of education and training, which promotes quality service delivery and ensures that Supercare Services Group values are reflected in the activities of the organisation.

The award winning Academy/College is a dedicated training and skills development facility. Skills development initiatives that require a coordinated approach across the Group, as well as initiatives aimed at advancing strategic and scarce skills are planned, implemented and monitored centrally.

Supercare recognises that the optimal growth and advancement of its human capital is one of the crucial elements in the success and sustainability of the organisation and not merely a compliance issue. Supercare is therefore committed to allocating resources accordingly.

Our approach to people development is not limited to an internal focus that is focused solely on developing our own skills pipeline – in a national context of critical skills shortages, unemployment and poverty, we recognise the need for partnerships with government and the SETA's, in order to facilitate skills development for marginalised South Africans.

Learning programmes are offered across four core areas and include:

  • Core Competence Development through modular training of skills
  • Supervisory and Management Development
  • Generic business skills and/or short courses
  • Leadership Development

Supercare supports and presents at most Southern African Cleaning Conferences, hosted amongst the Services SETA and various other institutions that have interest in cleaning, thereby making a significant contribution towards knowledge transfer and addressing skills shortages in the industry.

Supercare has been submitting Workplace Skills Plans and Annual Training Reports to Services SETA from the inception of the Skills Development Legislation. We partake in the mandatory, as well as discretionary grant schemes and are an active stakeholder within the Services SETA with representation on the Chamber Management Structures, SETA board level as well as various SETA sub-committees.

Supercare has a number of accredited Skills Development Facilitators, Qualified Assessors and Moderators that are all registered with the Services SETA.
